Behold A New Way To Pat My Own Back.

Jason Kottke just posted the contents of an email I sent him about how to clean up maple syrup. He didn't credit me, so it's impossible for anyone to know that it was I in my infinite wisdom who told him that the best way to clean up syrup is to place a piece of wax paper on it and then flip it with a spatual, transferring the syrup onto the wax paper and solving all your life's problem in one flick of the wrist. Since this is my website, I declare every Thursday Give Myself Credit Day, and from here on out I will be giving myself credit for something and then telling you all about it. Hi, this is my Superego talking.

So, anyway, cleaning up maple syrup is easy to do. First, place a large piece of wax paper directly on top of the puddle of syrup so you get a good stick. (You might even be able to use a paper grocery bag or newspaper for this.) With a spatula or paint scraper or whatever you've got handy, begin to flip the wax paper over by spooning the syrup onto it. Pretty soon you will have transfered all the syrup onto the wax paper and you can dispose of it quickly *and* easily. Voila! You've just removed the maple syrup from your floor, and I have validated my existence.

Join me next Thursday for Give Myself Credit Day when I tell you the story of how someone forgot their phone charger on a trip after I told them to pack it.
